Facilities platforms are built to be systems of record, not to talk to each other. Most providers wish integrating with their CMMS partners were easier, but the plumbing isn't there. So the actual integration layer of this industry is a person with two monitors, retyping work orders from one portal into another.
If you're a service provider, you live in your clients' systems, not your own: five portals, five logins, five places a status can go stale. If you're a multi-site operator, changing platforms means a months-long migration: extracting history, remapping every status and trade code, retraining every vendor on a new portal.
Even when systems technically integrate, the data doesn't mean the same thing on both sides. One platform's "Completed" is another's "Pending Invoice." Every tenant has its own trade codes, its own priority scheme, its own dialect. Mapping that is the real work, and today it's done in spreadsheets, memory, and tribal knowledge.

Once Kitwheel is pushing your updates into every client portal and pulling their work orders into your queue, your techs run their whole day out of one system, and so does your invoicing. The client portal is still there for the occasional COI upload or contact update, but it's out of the daily loop. Take Kitwheel away and you're back to a tab for every client and a spreadsheet to reconcile them.
Multi-site operators
You standardized on one CMMS for the whole company, but every vendor works out of their own system, and your ERP and GIS each keep their own copy of every work order. Kitwheel becomes the place they all agree, so updates land in your CMMS without vendors retyping them into your portal.
FM software & ops teams
You've been asked to "just integrate" two systems with incompatible status models and per-tenant field customizations.
